Based on the fact that the Red Sox did not incorporate names on back of this style of pre-game, I''m curious to know how it can be offered as a 1989 Red Sox jersey and have a MEARS LOA?

These same style pre-game jerseys were correctly identified and offered many years ago by Hartel Sports as Red Sox spring training/minor league jerseys.

The seller has been asked for a copy of the MEARS LOA and any insight as to it being offered as a 1989 Red Sox gamer.

Re: 1989 Red Sox Pregame With N.o.b.????

i spoke with troy in 2008 about that particular shirt. his answer:

"I spoke with Dave Miedema and he was confident it was a Red Sox affiliate minor league jersey. Is there some language that is not included in the letter that would better indicate what the item is? Upon review would you agree that by adding Minor League to the title instead of the comment section that it would minimize the confusion of the piece?

Also, this jersey illustrates another topic, why does MEARS authenticate everything. Although on the surface one might think we did it for the money, that has never been our reason. For this jersey I believe we charged $50.00, it might have been $25.00. For the amount of research time, sending it back and forth to Dave Medieme with insurance for his review, photography, data input , etc, it is not a money maker. The reason we do it to gather the information and to record the item for what we feel it is.

We did not have an example similar to this in our database at the time of evaluation. Our evaluators could not refernce a similar item in this case. By archiving this jersey with our best educated opinion, we are creating a database to work from for the future. In instances where collectors like yourself provide us with better descriptions, information, or point out faults in our opinions, we can more easily go back and ammend the original LOO.

That is actually the core principal of the MEARSonline LOO section. By archiving all of our work, it becomes public record and we can continually ammend and improve our final product, while eliminating mistakes as they are brought to our attention. MEARS has never felt we have all of the answers. But, over the next 20 years by archiving as much information as possible, we can create a very strong core set of data to build from."
