MS or BMH McGwire LS bat question.

Hi, I have a couple of Mark McGwire Louisville Sluggers. Neither have any game use, but I know he was issued some back in the early days. One is an R161 and the other is an S318. Do you know when these were issued?

Here is the info on McGwire that you requested, from H & B records --

During the period from 8/6/84 through 11/15/88, the following orders are documented:

    6/24/86 R161 / 34.5 in / 33 oz / No Finish / 12 bats / Tacoma Tigers

9/30/88 R161 / 34.5 / 33 / No Finish / 2 / invoiced to BB Promotions w/ specified weight thus presumed to be for his personal professional use

    2/13/87 S318 / 34.5 / 33 / No Finish / 12 / Oakland A's

Other early orders during that time period included M235 (Oakland 1984), M110 (Modesto 1985), C271 ( Modesto 1985), and C271C (Modesto 1985 and Oakland 1984).

Here is one of the most informative articles available for Mac bats, courtesy of Jeff at www.birdbats.com

and another very thorough article from www.mcgwire.com
