Help! Murphy B310 LVS Game-Used Question!

Any help with this question is greatly appreciated...

I am looking to acquire a Dale Murphy B310 Louisville Slugger. The person I am going to buy the bat from says he was given the bat from Murph in 1984 at a spring training game in West Palm Beach.

Here's my question: I have read through bat information that says the trademark symbol (R) was not added to the Louisville Slugger slogan under the player's name until 1986. The person says that the bat was from 1984?!?!?!

Is it possible that a bat from 1984 had the (R) symbol after the words "Louisville Slugger" underneath the player's signature?

Can any of the experts help me clear this up? I don't want to buy a bat that someone is lying to me about.

If it has an R after "Louisville Slugger," there is no way it would have been used in spring training 1984. That labeling was used from 1986-89.
