1980's Mark McGwire game worn Oakland pre-game. Notice the odd MLB patch on the right sleeve. I've never seen this on a MLB Oakland pregame, and am curious to know if any forum reader has seen this patch on a MLB (any team) or possibly minor league pre-game?
The seller indicated that the LOA and jersey came from Steve Vucinich, the A's equipment manager.
I'ts well known that the A's recycled their pre-games down through their minor league system. I've recently purchased and returned two different "McGwire game worn Oakland pre-games". Both had LOA's from Dobbins (who made a large bulk purchase from the a's in Arizona) and both had number changes. Although they had 25 on the back, outlines of previous numbers could be seen. The LOA's made no mention of this # change. Likewise, both jerseys showed extensive wear, leading one to believe they were worn after Oakland and possibly several seasons at spring training or the minor leagues. I'm curious to know if this patch was possibly added at one of the minor league levels, or if someone has a photo/baseball card showing an A's player (or minor leaguer) wearing such a pre-game.
Any insight to what this patch/jersey may be is appreciated.
