    Another Bench g/u helmet

I have no desire to own this so I'm not sure if the seller is attempting to sell it as a helmet that was used by Bench, or as one that was used by some random Red but was signed by Bench. The wording of the title and description is too ambiguous anyway to figure it out without asking.

Either way, considering Bench helmets typically bring big dough (with the exception of Grey Flannel's uhh "gamer" from its 12/5/07 sale), thought I'd throw a few thoughts out just in case it resurfaces down the road as a game used Bench helmet via a non-ebay venue. (christies-auctions is among the bidders here. Anyone know if that's the Christie's?)

I did email the seller asking whether the ABC logo on the back was embossed or applied via sticker. His reply was "applied via sticker." (Interesting though that my question isn't among those posted in the auction.) Bottom line on ABC logos, far as I can tell, is that ABC didn't begin stickering them until around 1990. (Bench's last season was 1983.)

The ebay helmet doesn't have any kind of player ID apparently and is missing part of the size sticker; however, the seller makes a guess at around 7 1/8. It would be the wrong size for Bench nonetheless according to somebody at the Reds Museum. See thread below for details on the logo and size.

Here are some shots of the current ebay example for future reference.

    Re: Another Bench g/u helmet

Bidding ended a smidge under $215 - So I am guessing the fact that an anonymous Reds GU helmet with Bench's sig and inscription was the draw.

Very good analysis of the helmet by the way...really a model for all posts.
