Vince Coleman Game Used Jersey Question

The below listed Coleman jersey just came up for auction on Ebay. It is listed as a 1990. From reveiwing the posts on this site I think it is a 1998. The tag is from that period and the bill of the Cardinal logo is red. Am I right?

I questioned the seller if he was sure about the year and he responded:
"It was obtained from a NL league equipment manager. The provenance from our perspective is 100% unquestioned. It is a beautiful jersey and it visually appears to match the one the Cardinals wore in that year. Some games had a patch on the shoulder and some did not. This is the best information I can give you."

Either way what are your opinions on the validity of the Jersey?

Re: Vince Coleman Game Used Jersey Question

It's clearly a 1998 jersey. It's a one-year style, so there's no denying it. There are so many differences between a 1990 and a 1998 that it's not even thinkable (pullover vs. button down, different logo, number on the front, sleeve patch, etc.).

Coleman was a non-roster invitee to spring training in 1998 for the Cardinals. He didn't make the team. It was his last hurrah before retiring.

        Hey Jeff -

The patch on the right sleeve looks like it says 1998 when magnified too...the seller even posted photos of it. I can't make out the patch, and don't remember what it was...?

Also, the photos clearly show an older Coleman...

Would like more info on the patch. Thanks sir - as usual.

For those interested, here is the full email response I got from the seller: I'm not sure if the jersey he selling has a patch on it or not. The patch in the photo definately looks like 98, as well as, an older Coleman.

"It was obtained from a NL league equipment manager. The provenance from our perspective is 100% unquestioned. It is a beautiful jersey and it visually appears to match the one the Cardinals wore in that year. Some games had a patch on the shoulder and some did not. This is the best information I can give you. The jersey is beautiful. Of course I did not personally see him wearing the jersey in the game but I believe it to be genuine.

          Thanks for your interst! "

I believe that patch commemorates the inagural season at Roger Dean Stadium.

Spring training only patch...so does that eliminate the jersey from ST 1998 use?

                Thanks Rudy.

The Roger Dean patch was worn on both home and road uniforms during 1998 spring training. So, if the eBay jersey doesn't have the patch (it doesn't appear to from the photos), then I'd have to assume it was made for Coleman but not worn. Possible it was made for regular season use, but when he didn't make the team, it became an extra.

                    FYI,

After contacting the seller again he changed the year date to 1998. According to his response he had received a few other emails stating the obvious. Thanks guys for all the help!
