I agree, that was a good seller price. That just confirms me not bidding on it cuz I wouldn't have gone anywhere near that amount.

Got ya! Yeah, thats sort of what I was thinking.....$350-$450ish. It could be completely fine, but for some reason, something really steered me away. Its ok though, I never would have paid that much for it anyways I suppose.

Sorry, I was not clear in my last comment, I meant it was a good price for the seller. If the jersey had great provenance, I think he could have gotten $750 or maybe more,. I did not end up bidding but expected it would have ended up around $450 or so. But, sometimes people will stretch if they have more information than everyone else or if they just want it a little more. It is a rare jersey as I have never seen a Vizquel Mariner jersey come up before.

Really? I thought $600+ was a little more than what I was thinking, especially with it being questioned.

I agree with you though, I thought the jersey itself just smelled fishy for some reason.

$630, thats a good price for the jersey. At the end of the day it looked better than a lot of stuff that sells for more on ebay. Did anyone on here end up with it?

Scott, I agree- I am completely torn on this one. I researched the auction he bought it from and only paid like $180 for the jersey so one thing is for sure, he is going to make some money on it. I will probably keep digging as I am a Vizquel fan and thought about bidding. For whatever reason, something just doesn't feel right to me so I doubt I will bid but somebody could end up with the jersey at a good price.

I agree that the pics you posted are a bit far, but they do look similar to the auction jersey. I can't find any clear pics as well. This just seems weird, but possible that the jersey is legit. This is a rare jersey for starters. There seems to be a lot of people wondering as well. I am very particular about jerseys and bats that I want. I just don't know if there is enough photo evidence to be satisfied. Interesting to see where this ends up.

Below is a zoom of the nameplate from the ebay jersey and the above card for comparison. While the jersey for sale is from 1990, the pics from the cards are likely from 1991.



Not sure that this allows for any substantial conclusions but I was hoping to see a nameplate that looked exactly like the jersey for sale. I am not finding any pics showing much of Vizquel's nameplate from 1990.

most jerseys, from the same year, same manufacturer, are going to look almost identical from the front in terms of the team wordmark and button placements. as well, manufacturers often use the same visual baselines or markers to align front numbers consistently.

at any rate, i concur with greg that the nob font is atypically thin. again, i don't know why or what it means. the jersey may very well be 100% legit and a very nice piece. vizquel was a great fielder and a 1990 jersey of his would be a rare item. i simply think that any potential bidder should know that the nob font, for whatever reason, is atypically thin.

I would say the fronts of the jersey on the trading card and in the eBay auction are remarkably similar-- the buttons/letter/number/lines alignments appear to be identical or at least dang close. Unless I am mistaken, the card is a 1991 Leaf, which would likely show the player in 1990.

I thought it might be helpful to show all of the nameplates next to eachother to compare fonts, etc. Below are pics of the nameplates from Kingjammy24's jerseys ('90 Buhner, '91 Hanson, '89 Valle) along with the Nixon sample from the Henderson gude and the Vizquel on ebay.

The Nixon appears the most similar to the Vizquel but the Vizquel font seems to be even thinner than the Nixon.

is the assumption here that the mariners jersey/font shown in bill's guide is original/unrestored?

it simply looks a little thin to me. this isn't to say it's not "good".
