    Re: 1976 Bench Bat Question

I am very curious -- who did the grading. Was there any mention in regards to the unusual gold stamping??

Glad you got a good result on the grade -- looks like you may be sitting on a great bat!!

I'm the seller of the bench bat. It does match his factory records and traits. I purchased the bat with a collection of other reds game used bats. It's a beautiful bat in regards to use and pine tar. As for the gold stamping it's still eluded me. I've contacted other collectors and authenticators about it. One authenticator had a bat with gold stamping (not bench) and the same issue. Bat had all the traits and matched records, but the gold stamping stumped him. I'm certain it was used by Bench and wish I knew the reason why the gold is on there. If you have any questions or information on the gold stamping I'd love to hear it.

Yes. I referring to the absence of a JB5 or similar store model markings on this post 75 bat.

This bat does not have the registered trademark next to Bench's signature from what I can see ( or does it?)

There was an old thread about a Bench store model bat (JB5 on the knob) which had Bench's signature without the registered trademark.

While this bat does not have anything stamped on the knob could it be possible that HB made souvenir BiCent bats of star players to sell in the Red's gift shop during the 76 season?

Never say never, but the gold print 1976 bat is a design I've never seen before, either. Seems to me that the gold and silver print LS bats, at least from what I have handled, started in or a little ways either side of 1990.

The brown color with gold writing has thrown me for a curve ball. I have never seen any other Bench bat, or any other player's bat for from 1976, with the gold writing on it.

The cupped "C" designation is found in the player's personal H & B ordering records, but most of the time the C designation was not included on the model number barrel stamping. I guess it's kind of like when my wife was buying a new gas range recently. She asked the salesman "So when this little red light on the front panel is on, that means that the burner is on ?" The salesman's astute reply was, "Yes, that and and the flame around the burner."

Either way...it's not NEAR worth the 3 grande that the guy is asking for..

    It is a cupped bat.

Mike - Why aren't any of Bench's bats marked cupped...when some obviously are?

    Thanks,

    Jeff

What's the model number on the barrel and the length of the bat ?? Is it cupped or uncupped?

Nothing other than the number 5 written in old magic marker...
