BTPH and all others following this,
Those individuals who identified the McAuliffe non blue bordered tags as being used during this era are correct. Furthermore, Dave M. is correct in that the blue bordered tags first appeared in 1974 (on a limited/ partial basis) and that the switch to full year tags ( 4 digit) started in 1972. The year tags from 1967-71 had various colored backgrounds with 2 digit years 1967- green w/ white #'s, 1968- red w/ white #'s 1969-navy blue w/red #'s, 1970- navy blue w/ white #'s, 1971- white w/red #'s. 1964-66 had white w/ red #'s

The jersey has the size tag as 42 which was correct for Petrocelli '69-'77

As Dave said, there is a decent chance that this jersey is legit.

I'm under the impression early 70's McAullife jerseys were ALL borderless tags and that the year tags had a colored background....here are some exemplars specifically from 1970....

Then it's a decent chance...the blue bordered McAuliffe tags weren't around until about 1974, and the market for jerseys to be replicated on a contemporary basis was almost nil...those problems are 99.8% products of the double knit era. Plus, McAuliffe used double digit year tags until 1972, when the four-digit year tags first showed up. I'm not sure how far back the 2-digit box tags go, but they were the norm in the 1960s and early '70s.

I emailed the seller before the auction ended. He told me that the McAuliffe tag DID NOT have blue trim on the label and the year tag had a blue background. I passed on it.

I bid $180 for flipping purposes. Somebody got a good deal. Is this a forgery? Is this Rico's? Is this majors or minors?
    Thoughts?
