Thanks for the help guys. My dad managed Eric during his first two years in Eugene Oregon and I really regret not getting more of his stuff when I had the chance. I've been picking up a few of his items over the years to add to my ED collection. This looks like a good one, although I'm not sure I can drop that kind of cash. I'm surprised it's still for sale. Excellent item!

Looks fine to me...given that Eric the Red was a raw minor leaguer and not yet a big star, the team likely grabbed a previous season blank and lettered and numbered it for Davis' spring use.

Yeah, that's my jersey. I just found the receipt - I purchased it in October of 09 on ebay. Eric wore #55 during his first big league spring training camp. I tweeted him the other day (EricDavis3344 on twitter) and he confirmed that's when he wore that number. Everything checks out on the jersey to me - no sign of changed numbers or name and the jersey is period correct for the year it's tagged. I'm by no means a complete expert on 80's Reds gamers, but I am pretty well informed. I purchased it thinking it was actually worn in his first few major league games, but then found it was from spring training. This would make it his first major-league related jersey I suppose? Hope this helps!
