I wouldn't be surprised if it sold for $50k or close to it, considering how passionate Ichiro fans are. That auction has to be one of the longest written descriptions I have ever seen on Ebay. I love how they say at the end of the auction "must be paid for via Paypal within 3 days". Yeah, good luck with that, buddy.

I think it will sell, too. Funny thing about collecting these days. Everything of value is priced way out of line with only the no-name jerseys affordable.

That's why I have decided to hold pat on the jerseys I have -- buy none, sell none. It's crazy.

This jersey has been up on eBay before with no bidders. I seem to recall one of the auction formats listing it at $100K and $75K with a BIN.

This jersey has been listed and re-listed for over a year with such
a ridiculous BIN price that it is now, unfortunately, considered an
undesirable laughingstock of an item in the Japanese market. (at least
at anything remotely close to the asking price.)
When the jersey first popped on Ebay over a year ago, several of my
high-end customers took some interest in it and inquired to me about
acting as a buying agent. However after speaking to the seller
it seems he's only looking to make a killing to that one "special" buyer.
(aka " a wealthy naive Japanese Ichiro fanatic")

I think my initial offer was 22K and he asked for more. After a several
months many of customers lost interest so I made an offer of 15K which
the seller found insulting. Now I would be far fetched to even pay half that
since those same customers who were interested are laughing its still on
Ebay and no longer have the desire to own it.

The average Ichiro collector with money to spend wants a #51 jersey with
"Ichiro" on the back which can be had for a fraction of the price.
No offense to JR Day and the #42 jerseys but this jersey might actually be
worth $25K or so had it been a #51 home jersey because it is a
            "record-tying" jersey.

As with anything on the market, including homes, if you see something
on the market long enough you get tired of looking at it and it becomes
undesirable. I can assure you every single serious Ichiro collector from
Japan has seen the jersey especially with the inception of SEKAIMON.
(SEKAIMON is an Ebay partner site that is specifically designed for
users who live in Japan and don't understand English. )

I think this is a cautionary tale of how not to sell a high profile item on Ebay.

For the record, I would love to see the jersey sell for 50K since it would
            be great for my market.

look at it from the seller's perspective. he probably enjoys the jersey but like anything in life everything has a price and hes willing to sell it if he gets it, if not he will just keep it. not every seller is a motivated seller. to afford the jersey in the first place he has to be a man of means.
