Re: Distraught about Canada Post-Need Help-Update

Just curious if Paypal inquired as to why you sent the money as a gift when you contacted them about this matter?

Paypal has been great. Because I sent money as a gift (my idea dammit!!!) they cannot cover the lost $350 but they did flag the account of Julie Freymond, to whom I sent the money. Also, my bank will file a claim for me.

I may not get the money but I got a good lesson about letting down my guard. And thanks so much to forum members who have been by my side.

Re: Distraught about Canada Post-Need Help

They did not inquire about the gift. They said only that Paypal fees are paying for a layer of protection that the gift does not. The paypal claim is only a way of tweaking the conscience of the delinquent seller.

Again, it was my mistake. I have a big heart and wanted to help a guy who had just "lost his job." Still, the bank said it can file a claim for me because the money came through fraud and my checking account. We shall see...

Thanks for all the moral support. Again the errant e-mails are davegameguy@yahoo.ca and julielovesbunnies@hotmail.com Not giving up,

Re: Distraught about Canada Post-Need Help

I just got taken for $400 from the exact same person. I bought 2 Bautista hats about a month ago and haven't received them. He comes off like a nice guy but doesn't deliver or answer emails. This is the first time I've ever been ripped off on this board. Makes just want to stop collecting. Pay pal says they can't help me.

Did you send this payment as a "gift". I'm confused why PayPal can't help you.

Just curious if you have the seller send an invoice via paypal, would paypal protect you? I know the gift thing is to avoid fees to the seller but having the seller send an invoice would seem like a safer avenue.

                    Hi David,

Wandered over to the little postal outlet near my home and they assured me the Canada Post website will get updated today. Because it is out in the boonies, the item didn't get picked up until Friday so it will be trackable today. Here is a copy of the waybill I scanned in for you.

                    Thanks

                    Dave

Wow!!! Same guy. Same MO. Paypal said the fees guarentee their coverage -- sort of like an insurance premium. A gift is not covered. Paypal is real nice about it and files a claim for you but it's really only a "feel-good" gesture. The credit card dispute, or in my case the bank, since it came thrugh my checking account, are my only options.

No Ebay ID. I think he just trolls the forum and e-mails people directly with the "Just lost my job. Hate to part with it." I guess we could spam him with e-mails but I'm sure he doesn't care. Collectors -- just be wary of the story and, as forum members say, cover yourself with protection.

So what is the update on this Dave? Any luck on getting your item?

As a side note. Growing up in St. Pete, Fl. Driving around we used to get quite upset with all the cars that had Ontario & Quebec license plates.....Snow Birds the Northern Tourists were called.... They would drive pretty darn slow and/or get lost all the time ....
                        Thank you,

Re: Distraught about Canada Post-Need Help

I'll have no luck getting item or refund ($350). The bank cannot help because I voluntarily surrendered my account access to Paypal for my convenience. Paypal cannot help because I sent it as a gift. Summing things up...

                            1. We have great built-in protection through Paypal and credit cards. Use it by sending Paypal as "goods" or "services." -- not as "gift." Use that protection by using your credit card. I did neither. My bad.

                            2. I did not mean to bash Canadiens or their lovely country. Seriously. But nobody should be allowed to take advantage of others the way davegameguy@yahoo.ca or julielovesbunnies@hotmail.com or whoever it was did. It hurts us all.

                            3. Thanks for this forum. Because of it, other collectors can be protected from the same or similar scams. Apologies and blessings to all.

Before any American bashes another country they should probably look at there own country first.

That being said I have love for all countries and people.

Sorry son. Canada is the ripoff country. Americans have no recourse there. Most Canadians may be honest, but the country itself is a big joke. Canadians come to America and tip like Tiger Woods; sell viagra and other prescription drugs over the internet; and steal American films and books while hiding beyond the small country bullshit. Canada needs to step up and pay its share of defense spending. When I go there, I try to spend as little as possible knowing that they would do the same here in the States.
