I remember hearing that Ryan always used Goodman & Sons uniforms despite what the team ordered and typically brought his own Astro uniforms. This could explain the jersey and the different outline on the star.

Up on eBay right now is a Baltimore Sun photo of Ryan in game action which is initially dated 7/5/82. You can see the star....no white outline. Maybe Mike Sharon or another Astros specialist can chime in, but I believe the white outline didn't appear on this style until the Astros began ordering from Goodman & Sons a couple of years later.

Another thing that has me worried is the tagging. Maybe I'm wrong, but the tagging appears to be minty fresh for a gamer that's 30 years old.

I have yet to find a picture from that year of any Astros where the star is outlined in white...all the ones, including the pictures they are using have no white around the star
