Knight or not hat question

From the very handy New Era primer posted here, it appears that this Mets hat is from 1988. Which means it probably wasn't worn by Ray Knight while he was playing for the Tigers. It also appears as though the MLB and size tags have been removed. Is this correct? Thanks for any thoughts.

Tags appear to have been removed after the hat was used, as evidenced by the "clean" spots where the tags would've been covering the sweatband.
