NFL Helmet Experts . . . . A Little Help

Always loved the classic Patriots logo. Not looking to pick one up, but never say never. Need some help on some of my "research".

Saw this on on eBay recently. Stated it was a Mike Ruth. With the thick face mask, I thought it should date between 1980-1983. If I'm not mistaken, the numerals on the back matchup with 1983. Ruth played the in mid 80's.

Then I dug this old link up from Huggins and Scott Auctions. Same helmet. Comical that they list 1961 to 1991 as possibilities:

I was wondering about this helmet too. If it helps, some thick facemasks remained in use past 1983. A number of them can be seen in the Superbowl in January 1986.

I believe that numeral style to be circa 1984. Haven't looked it up, just my memory from a helmet I once owned.

Still curious in the price difference between Huggins & Scott Auctions and eBay. Less interest? Helmet look good? Any other opinions?
