For anyone interested in the supposed Detroit Wheels jersey on ebay, it is nothing more than a very inaccurate replica. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-1973-74...item566b4533df This poorly researched jersey style along with several other inaccurate team replicas (Southern California Sun quickly comes to mind) were available via magazine ads circa late 1970s/early 1980s.
I notified the Seller who responded quickly with a cordial "thanks" over two days ago, but no changes have been made to the header or description at this point. Attached are photos of an actual Wheel game-used jersey along with a game photo. Some key and very obvious differences on the replica include:
1. Colors of the numbers and sleeve stripes are reversed. Gold should be the primary color with red being the trim color.
2. The tagging is incorrect. As seen in one of my attached photos, the WFL teams that used Sand Knit (7 of the original 12) had the double tagging with the "Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the World Football League" tag on top and the size tag underneath. For those interested in Sand Knit tagging history, the style seen on the replica jersey was not in existence in 1974 (Wheels existed for only a portion of the 1974 season before folding).
3. None of the WFL teams sported a WFL patch as seen on the replica.
Hope this information is helpful. Let me know if any additional information is needed.
