2006 Brandon Jacobs Game Worn Giants Alternate Red Jersey (NY Giants LOA)

In his third year out of Southern Illinois, it appears Brandon Jacobs has a chance to shine with the New York Giants. The retirement of Tiki Barber has opened the door for Jacobs to become the number one running back in New York. His rare combination of speed and size makes him a treat from anywhere on the field, especially the goal line. This was shown when he led all rookie running backs with 7 touchdowns in 2005.
This game used Jacobs jersey displays decent wear throughout. On the front back and both shoulders is the player number '27' sewn on in white tackle twill. On the back, above the number, sewn on a red nameplate is "JACOBS" done in white tackle twill. Inside the neck is the 06-44 swatch tag indicating the year and size. Sewn at the base of the neck is the NFL EQUIPMENT embroidered logo patch. Below embroidered in white is the New York "NY". Sewn on both sleeves is the embroidered Reebok logo. The tail has been custom cut and shortened with an elastic band inserted.

He went to Auburn for one year before transferring to Southern Illinois. As a matter of fact, I have two of his jerseys he wore in his year at Auburn. One of my jerseys is size 50. No idea how he'd be wearing a 44 when he's the size of a lineman.

This is not my jersey so I am not defending it on a personal level. But with NFL jerseys they are so custom heemed, it does not surprise me a pro one would be smaller than a college size label wise. They will take the smallest jersey possible then expand the sides to make it fit but still be super tight, to not allow defenders to grab their jerseys.

That may very well be the case. Those jerseys he wears now do look super tight.

It states that the tail is cutom hemmed and elasticized, yet there is no photo of it?? That's a pretty important part of the jersey, no?

Gentlemen!

NFL jersey sizes vary greatly by team. It depends on the style of cut worn by the team. I believe that I previously made a post addressing this issue in detail.

Even though all teams wear Reebok, they do not all wear the same style of cut. For example, the Falcons wear the style that has the "batwing" cut shoulders that are basically made of a spandex type material. The sizes tend to be a lot smaller due to the "stretch" and style of the material. You will see huge defensive linemen wearing size 42 and some linebackers in size 40! On the other hand, most of the Eagles 2005 jerseys are the satin shoulder style in which the sizes range from 46 to 56 depending on the player (a few exceptions - mainly several linebackers - wore the "batwing" cut).

There are other variances such as the Bears who have a mesh shoulder, and a hybrid worn by other teams where the sizes tend to be of a more uniform nature. The bottom line is that the sizing depends on the style used by the team, so it is important to know the style being worn by the particular team in question.
