Luis Gonzalez broke in as a Major League Baseball player with the Houston Astros in 1990. His best year early in his career was 1993, when his batting average was .300 with 162 hits, including 34 doubles and 15 home runs. It was in Arizona that Gonzalez became a star. He helped the Diamondbacks into title contention immediately, hitting a career-best .336 in 1999, leading the NL in hits with 206 and helping them win the National League's western division that season. He was selected to his first All-Star Team in 1999. In 2000 he blasted 31 home runs and cracked 192 hits. In 2001, Gonzalez astonished many when he hit 57 home runs, his personal best for one season and almost twice as many as he hit in any other season. Gonzalez was selected to his second All-Star Team and finished second in the NL in hits with 198. Gonzalez also won the Home Run Derby that year. He was also selected to All-Star Teams in 2002, 2003, and 2005. Currently Gonzalez anchors the middle of the Los Angeles Dodgers line-up.

The knob of this bat contains the stamped model number (256LG), batch code (254) and year code (07) common to Rawlings professional model bats. This bat was used by Gonzalez and displays many ball and hit marks in a concentrated area on the barrel , resulting in an area of checking above the barrel label. Remnants of pine tar used for handle preparation extend approximately 9 inches from the knob. This bat has been slightly cracked. A small area of non-displaced wood appears approximately13 inches from the knob, and does not affect the display quality of this bat at all. Gonzalez' uniform number, 26, is written on the barrel end of this bat in black marker. On the knob is a black circle that appears to contain the number 3, possibly indicative of use by a second player. The model number, length, and weight of this bat have also been written in thin black marker on the knob.
