Bobby Grich had a very successful player career with Baltimore and the Angels for over 15 seasons. What primarily set him apart from the other second basemen of his generation was his combination of fielding and hitting. He won the AL home run title (tied) in 1981, won four consecutive Gold Glove Awards and made the American League All-Star squad six times. In a 17-year career, Grich batted .266, with 224 home runs, 864 RBI, 1033 runs, 1833 hits, 320 doubles, 47 triples, 104 stolen bases, and a .371 on base percentage in 2008 games. As one of the first players to cash in on baseball's "big money" era, Grich was profiled in Sports Illustrated following his retirement, and is remembered for the following quote: "It's pretty cool getting up in the morning and knowing that your biggest decision of the day is what color of shorts to wear."
