Russell Martin 2007 X-Bat Game Used Bat

Russell Martin was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2002. He was originally a third baseman before switching to catcher after a scout saw him playing for the Gulf Coast Dodgers in Rookie Ball and thought he showed more promise in that position. He had been rated the best high school catcher in North America in the April 2002 Sporting News. Martin has excelled since taking over the starting catcher's job for the Dodgers in 2006. He not only is a good hitter for average (approaching a .300 BA as 2007 draws to a close) with good power (near 20 HRs in 2007), but is fast enough to steal bases (over 20 SBs in 2007), a rarity for a catcher. On defense, he has been widely praised for his direction of games and handling of the pitching staff, and is becoming established as a clubhouse leader. He was a selection for the 2007 NL All Star Team.
This 35-inch, 31½-ounce X-Bat was manufactured and used by Martin in the 2007 season. Showing tremendous game use, the bat shows a large number of cleat marks on the barrel, among the numerous ball marks, hit marks, and rack marks also present. A very heavy tar application is present on the handle, still exhibiting some stickiness. This bat has sustained a moderate crack approximately 14 inches from the handle, which has been repaired with two strips of white athletic tape. Martin's uniform number, 55, appears on the knob of the bat, and the weight is marked inside the cupped end in silver marker.
This is an opportunity to get a very nice bat from early in the career of the Dodgers' All Star catcher, Russell Martin. The bat is sourced from Steiner Sports, and bears both the Steiner and MLB holograms.
