    Duke Snider 1973-1975 Signed H & B Used Coach's Bat

A graceful center fielder with a picture-perfect swing, Duke Snider was the biggest bat in the Brooklyn Dodgers potent lineup of the 1950s. He hit 40 or more homers five consecutive times and led all batters in home runs and RBI during the 1950s, securing a home run title in 1956. The Duke of Flatbush hit four homers in two different World Series (1952 and 1955), clouting a total of 11 Series home runs and 26 Series RBI. Duke Snider was selected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1980. This eight-time All Star was a member of the Dodgers World Championship teams of 1955 and 1959.
Following his playing career, Snider coached and served as a batting instructor for several teams over the years, including the Dodgers, Mets, and Padres. He was a fixture at Spring Training camps throughout the 1970s. This post-career Duke Snider professional model bat was manufactured by Hillerich & Bradsby during the 1973-1975 labeling period. The bat is stamped C117L on the knob, a model favored by Snider throughout his career. It is 35 inches in length and currently weighs approximately 37 ounces -- a slight weight gain likely due to storage conditions over the years. Post-career records from H & B do not show orders of C117L bats to Snider after 1967, however Snider's use of that model as a coach have been documented beyond that time, through 1972. This bat has dimensions within the range of those ordered by Snider throughout his career .
This uncracked bat has been signed by Snider on the sweet spot in blue Sharpie, who also added the notation "HOF '80." The signature measures approximately 4 inches in length, and is clear and unhurried. The barrel shows significant use, including ball marks, hit marks, cleat marks, and slight checking. There is evidence of tape application approximately 9 inches down the handle, which has been removed. Pine tar remnants are seen for approximately 1 inch beyond the taped area. Snider's uniform number, 4, is written in green ballpoint pen on the knob.
This autographed bat displays very strongly, and represents a quality example of a Duke Snider signature model professional bat, manufactured by H & B following Snider's playing career, with use attributed to Snider as a coach or hitting instructor between 1973 and 1975. View Lot Detail page
