Dave Winfield played for 22 seasons and is a member of both the Baseball Hall of Fame and the College Baseball Hall of Fame. A tremendous and versatile, he was drafted out of college in three sports – baseball, basketball, and football. He chose baseball as his career, and played for the San Diego Padres, the New York Yankees, the California Angels, the Toronto Blue Jays, the Minnesota Twins, and the Cleveland Indians. Winfield retired in 1995 and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001, in his first year of eligibility. He chose to become the first player to choose to go into Cooperstown as a Padre -- a move that reportedly irked Yankees' owner George Steinbrenner. In 1999, Winfield ranked number 94 on The Sporting News list of Baseball's Greatest Players, and was a nominee for the Major League Baseball All-Century Team. A 12-time All Star, Winfield is a member of the 3,000 Hit Club and was a member of the 1992 Toronto Blue Jays World Championship team.
This uncracked, natural/black finished bat was manufactured by Cooper – model DW20-- in 1992 and used by Dave Winfield during that World Championship season. The bat is a signature model and measures 35 ¾ inches in length and approximately 33 ½ ounces in weight. It displays light-to-moderate use, evidenced by hit marks, ball marks, and rack marks on the barrel, and remnants of dried pine tar on the handle. Winfield's uniform number, 32, appears on the knob in black marker.
This bat was presented by Winfield to his Blue Jays teammate Duane Ward. Winfield inscribed the bat in silver marker as follows:
"To Wardo All the Best Dave Winfield '92"
The inscription is clear and unhurried, and stands out boldly against the lacquered black finish. A LOA from former Major Leaguer Duane Ward accompanies this bat. Single signed Winfield game used bats are difficult to find, and this perfect example with strong provenance from a historically significant season, is the best of the best.View Lot Detail page
