    Note for Future Auctions

I did not bid in the current auction, but I was impressed by the variety of items listed. In my mail today I received a nicely put together GUU auction magazine- 4 days after closing. A friend of mine got theirs on Saturday. This tool would have been an effective way to spark interest had it were mailed much earlier.

      Hey Guys,

Thanks for the feedback. There was actually a post about this in another thread. I thought I would re-post my reply here so that you knew we read your comments and are taking them to heart:

"Thanks for the post. The brochures were included as a stand-alone insert in the SCD issue that was mailed in similar timing and, based on the registration calls we received, seemed to reach people through that venue. This was our first time using bulk mailing and we were assured by the post office that they should be in our members hands in time for the auction.

It appears fair to say that the bulk mailing option may take longer than we were led to believe. As such, we will work to make sure they go out further in advance for the next auction.

      Sincerely,
      Chris"

People that didn't get the auction catalog until it was too late also have to realize that this auction was promoted heavily on this site and all items were described/listed here for nearly a month (how could you miss it?). I actually was surprised to get a catalog in the mail because I had already reviewed all pieces on line & wasn't even expecting one.

I was well aware of the auction and did not need the catalog to inform me of the event. My original post was to let the organizers know that the time/effort and money used to put it(the catalog) together was not maximized due to the fact it was sent out too late.

                    Kelly,

Thanks very much for the heads up on this. Unfortunately, the USPS bulk mail process didn't work in our favor this time around. Next time, we'll be sure to provide them with PLENTY of lead time. We too can laugh at our mistakes...so let the contest for latest arrival time continue...

                    Best,

                        Hey Jeff--

I've still got those two Terry Kennedy GU bats we discussed awhile ago---- if you like, you may take your pick for the winning (losing ??) prize.

Wow! It took over a month for the brochure to go from Northern California to the Midwest. Also, it appears that some people never even received the brochure at all (that does assume the addresses people entered in our database were correct). Is that typical for bulk mail?

To be very honest, as a general rule I only use the post office as a last resort. In fact, I had a very important package sent to me recently through the USPS that somehow ended up in Hawaii (the address on the package was to Northern California). Given the bulk mail rates are dramatically cheaper than other carriers, we used the USPS for this mailing. I guess that is a lesson learned. I just never would have imagined something like this would take over a month to go halfway across the country. I guess the only positive about the situation is that hopefully most of the people we mailed the brochure to from our database (that was done in addition to the brochure going out through SCD) knew about the auction through the GUU site, our emails or our advertising.
