Alfonso Soriano is a major star who has played eight years in the majors, and is one of the few players to ever hit 40 home runs and steal 40 bases in the same season (the others are Jose Canseco, Barry Bonds, and Alex Rodriguez). In spite of his stardom, both of his previous two teams, the New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers, were willing to trade him away after good seasons. Although he played exclusively second base from 2001-05, in 2006 he played exclusively in the outfield with the Washington Nationals. He had the unusual circumstance of hitting 46 home runs but driving in fewer than 100 RBI. During that year he also stole 40 bases. And if that wasn't enough he hit 40 doubles - making the first 40-40-40 club.
With the New York Yankees, he replaced Chuck Knoblauch at second base, and when he joined the Texas Rangers, Michael Young moved from second base to shortstop to accommodate Soriano. As for the Washington Nationals, they had used several players in left field in 2005 before Soriano showed up in 2006. With the Cubs in 2007 and 2008, Soriano hit 6 leadoff home runs in September of 2007, setting a MLB record. His 14 homers that month broke the Cubs franchise record held by Ernie Banks. He added 29 more homers in 2008.
This home white Washington Nationals uniform was worn by Alfonso Soriano during the 2006 season, including the 2006 All-Star Game in Pittsburgh. The jersey has two patches on the sleeves, a Nationals team patch and the 2006 All-Star Game patch (both of which are faded due to laundering). The jersey is tagged on the tail with a Majestic tag, a size 46 flag tag, and a "Set 6 2006" flag tag. This jersey also has the proper interior "0062" pro-coded wash tag, along with a second size 46 flag tag. The jersey exhibits moderate evidence of game use, primarily in the form of wash wear, puckering to the lettering, logo and numbers, and some loose stitching. The pants are tagged in the waistband with a Majestic tag and a strip tag that reads "12 Soriano 32-35 30 06 S1", indicative of Soriano's jersey number, name, size, year, and set number. The pants exhibit heavy evidence of use, including a large team repair on the back.View Lot Detail page
