David Wright debuted with the New York Mets on July 21, 2004 and has been the club's starting third baseman ever since. An All Star selection in 2006 and 2007, Wright is on course to becoming one of the Mets' all-time fan favorites. In 2006 he was one of the club's top three hitters in all offensive categories. In 2007 he had a 26-game hitting streak and joined the 30 – 30 club with 30 home runs and 34 stolen bases. In 2008 Wright picked up where he left off as, on Opening Day, he began the year with two doubles, including a bases-clearing double, in finishing 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs in the Mets' Opening Day defeat of the Marlins, 7-2. He finished the 2008 season with a .302 batting average, 33 home runs, and 124 RBIs. Baseball guru Bill James tabbed Wright as one of the "two or three best young players in baseball."
