Reggie Jackson's Major League resume is as long as many of his monstrous home runs. In addition to being immortalized as a Hall of Famer in 1993, Jackson was an All-Star in 1969, 1971-1975, and 1977-1984. He won the AL MVP in 1973, and Silver Sluggers in 1980 and 1982. Known as "Mr. October", Jackson won the World Series MVP in 1973 and 1977. Reggie also led the AL in home runs in 1973, 1975, 1980, and 1982.
From the personal collection of Hall of Fame pitcher Rollie Fingers comes this beautiful black Adirondack Model 288RJ bat, 34.5 inches in length and weighing approximately 33 ounces. The bat appears uncracked, but in actuality there is a very slight crack along the grain on the handle, at the bottom by the white Adirondack ring. It is non-displaced and almost impossible to see. In addition, the bat shows light use including light wear on the knob and an area of ball marks and hit marks on the barrel below the label. The model number 288RJ is stamped on the knob – there is no year or batch code stampings, and no additional All Star Game labeling.
This bat has been signed above the barrel by Reggie Jackson in silver marker, and the notations "Mr. October" and "H.O.F. '93" have been added as well. Below the barrel label Jackson has added "Gamer! All Star Game 1982 Montreal." According to Rollie Fingers, the bat was given to him by Reggie Jackson following the 1982 All Star Game and signed by Reggie at a much later date during a HOF induction weekend. Fingers has provided a signed Letter of Authenticity which states, "Bat given to me by Reggie Jackson after All Star Game and personally signed."
The 1982 Major League Baseball All-Star Game was the 53rd midseason exhibition and was played on July 13, 1982 at Olympic Stadium in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, home of the Montreal Expos of the National League. The game resulted in a 3-1 victory for the NL. It is notable for being the first All-Star Game ever played outside the United States.
