In 1956, the Brooklyn Dodgers edged out the Milwaukee Braves to win the National League title. In that season, Don Newcombe won the NL MVP and first Cy Young Award. The Dodgers faced the New York Yankees in the World Series and lost in a tough seven game series to their cross-town rivals led by triple crown winner Mickey Mantle.
