A six time All Star and two time Silver Slugger Award winner, Moises Alou comes from a family in which baseball is a way of life. His father Felipe, who managed Moises with the Expos from 1992 to 1996 and the Giants in 2005 and 2006, as well as uncles Matty and Jesús, and cousin Mel Rojas, all had long careers in the major leagues. As of 2006, he was one of six active major leaguers to hit 20 home runs in a season whose fathers had also hit 20 home runs in a MLB season. Alou's best season to date came in 2000 when he hit .355 with 30 home runs for the Houston Astros. He was also a member of the Florida Marlin's 1997 World Championship team, and this season put up a .340-plus batting average as the Mets battled for a division flag. Following a stellar 2007 season in which he batted .341 and compiled a 30 game hitting streak 8/23/07 through 9/26/07, That streak is the longest hitting streak in Mets history. Alou was limited by injuries to 49 plate appearances in 2008. He currently has a 17-year career batting average of .303.

It was acquired during Alou's record-setting 30-game hitting streak which went from 8/23/07 through 9/26/07. Measuring 34 inches and weighing approximately 32 ounces, this flame treated beauty shows hit marks and ball marks (most above the label), rack marks on the barrel, and worn pine tar application along the handle, extending to the Rawlings color ring. The knob has characteristic Rawlings stampings of model (456MA), batch code (005) and year code (07.) Additionally, Alou's name and the weight of this bat are written in black ball point pen on the knob. Finally, Alou's uniform number, 18, is written on both the knob and the barrel end in black marker. This bat has a significant crack on the handle, approximately 7 inches from the knob. The wood is slightly displaced and a small piece of wood is missing, approximately .25 inch by 1.5 inch in size. A second small piece of wood is missing closer to the knob, approximately half the size of the other.
