    Rollie Fingers Fielders Glove

Thanks to glove expert Dennis Esken, we were able to determine that the Rollie Fingers glove from this current auction was misdated. Although this glove is virtually identical to the model used by Fingers during his final seasons in Milwaukee, this glove could not have been used prior to 1993. Due to this error, the glove has been pulled from the auction. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me directly.

    Rob,

Can someone please ask Rollie Fingers how he wrote an LOA on a glove made almost 10 years after he retired if it was coming directly from him. Most player know there gloves imtimately and I am finding it hard to believe that it was simply an honest mistake if this glove is being consigned directly from him.

I look forward to his response.

    Regards,
    Dave

      Dave,

You are correct. There are players who know their equipment intimately. Having dealt with Mr. Fingers directly on a few deals, I can tell you with certainty that Rollie does not. I'm certain that forum members could share countless stories about other athletes who have made similar errors.

Rollie relies on memory to date items, and made a simple mistake. For your reference, his exact response to me tonight was, "I have a box of gloves in my garage. Sometimes I forget when I got them." Your post suggests that Mr. Fingers' mistake was less than honest. Are you suggesting he purposely misdated the glove with the intent to deceive collectors?

        Rob,

If he is asking people to spend thousands of dollars on buying his items, I'd ask that he be a little more careful, and make sure he know what is what before he signs an LOA. You make it sound like he just grabs whatever is in the box like potluck...If not for Denny someone was going to spend thousands of dollars on an item he could not have worn. You may consider that "simple mistake" but I'm sure the person spending the thousands doesn't agree.

          Dave,

The fact is, no one spent "thousands" on this glove. Even if the mistake had been realized years down the road, the situation would have been rectified. Rollie is human...he made an error....the error was addressed very promptly. I'm still curious...your initial post stated that "I am finding it hard to believe that it was simply an honest mistake...". This implies that Mr. Fingers intentionally misdated the glove. Is that what you believe to be the case?

            Rob,

No, you've already clarified what happened. He has a box of gloves in his garage, he grabbed one out of the box to auction and made an honest mistake about when he used it. Thank you for the clarification.

            Dave
