    hey chris,

i'm curious..what happened or will happen to this auction:

even if one ignores the style and name issues, there's the issue of the number (24) and the patch which aren't minor issues.

      Hello Rudy,

Our goal is to create a marketplace where all the items we offer are truly legitimate. That is why we set up our system the way we did. While the letter from Dr. Smith seems pretty unequivocal in terms of his belief in the items provenance, we are certainly going to try to further evaluate the information posted yesterday.

At this point, what we plan to do is call the winning bidder and explain the points that were raised here. Again, while we are not trying to doubt the credibility of Dr. Smith, there is always a possibility that he may have been mistaken about where or when the jersey was worn. In fact, given the letter, I personally think it is in the realm of possibility that the uniform was worn by DeDeaux in some venue. I just don't think Dr. Smith would be completely mistaken about the jersey being worn by DeDeaux at all if not during the games themselves. In addition, we will also see if it is possible to contact Dr. Smith to see if he has any insights into the questions raised.

Net, while the additional research is being done, all these points will be explained to the winning bidder and we will determine the desire of the winning bidder in light of this information. If they are not comfortable with the item after everything is explained they will not be obligated to purchase the item.

Thanks again to everyone who contributed to the thread and we will certainly make sure all the information is explained and that the appropriate action will be taken in light of the questions raised despite the provenance behind the uniform.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

Chris, this was the first auction I participated in and want to thank you for putting it on. I was a little confused about if the auction was ever going to end, but it figures I learn more about auctions other than ebay on here.

Thanks again, keep up the good work!
Looking for: Joey Votto game used items.

Chris - It took me some time to find a good photo but this shot from teh 1984 Olympics clearly shows buttons on Coach Dedeaux's jersey.
