A feared slugger throughout his career, Jack Clark played for the Giants (1975-84), Cardinals (1985-87), Yankees (1988), Padres (1989-90) and Red Sox (1991-92). A clutch hitter and consistent slugger, Clark became the hero of the 1985 National League Championship Series with a dramatic Game Six ninth-inning three-run home run off Dodgers pitcher Tom Niedenfuer. In 1987, Clark had probably his best season. He hit .286 with 35 home runs, 109 RBI, and a led the league in on-base percentage and slugging percentage with a .459 OBP and a .597 SLG. He finished 3rd in the MVP vote, but some have speculated that he should have won the award over the man who actually won it, Andre Dawson. A four-time All-Star, Clark also won the Silver Slugger Award in 1985 and 1987. In an 18-season career, Clark was a .267 hitter with 340 home runs and 1180 RBI in 1994 games.
This is the actual Silver Slugger Award awarded to Jack Clark for his offensive performance during the 1985 season. This award was purchased from Clark, and comes with a letter of authenticity signed by him. The award is in excellent condition, with some minor wear on the wood base. The plaque is inscribed with: "Hillerich & Bradsby Co. Silver Slugger Award, Presented to Jack Clark – 1B, St. Louis Cardinals." The plaque also lists the other winners of the award in 1985, a list that includes Hall of Famers Ryne Sandberg and Gary Carter, along with Clark's teammate, Willie McGee.
This is a scarce opportunity to bid on a very personal award from one of the premiere sluggers of the 1980's that was consigned to the auction by Rob Steinmetz.
