Wade Boggs Game Used Red Sox Helmet

A perennial All-Star in the 1980's and 1990's, Wade Boggs captured eight Silver Slugger Awards and led the American League in batting average five times. Elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005, Boggs' collected 3,010 hits while earning a career average of .328. While playing for the New York Yankees, Boggs also won two Gold Glove Awards and his first World Championship.

This late 1980's Boston Red Sox helmet was manufactured by the American Baseball Cap Company, and was worn by Wade Boggs during the peak of his career. There is a size 7 3/8 label inside of the dome of the helmet. There is a large white "26" decal affixed to the back of the helmet, and the number 26 is also hand-written on the inside of the helmet (on the padding at the top of the dome). This helmet exhibits extensive evidence of game use and was consigned by Rob Steinmetz.View Lot Detail page

I can easily see $500 for a starting point for a jersey but not for a helmet.

I believe that this is the same one that just sold in the Lelands auction a few months ago for around $700...

Guys - Helmets are tough - much tougher to find than you think. In the last Lelands auction, there was a lot of Boggs material - and it was all consiged by one person - made it seem like Boggs stuff was everywhere, which is not the case. You will not find many Boggs helmets out in the market - maybe one every couple of years if you are lucky. You may not agree with the opening bid of $500, but I believe it's because of the scarcity of the item. They are much tougher than jerseys and certainly tougher than bats..........good luck to whoever is bidding! jim

I'm not helmet expert but I don't believe the ABC brand helmet from the 80's had pinwheel dates. MLB helmets that are made by Rawlings from the mid-90's to the present would have the pinwheel dates.
