The 10' x 20' American flag in this auction once flew over historic Shea Stadium (please note the one pictured above is representative of the flag and not necessarily the particular one in this auction). Originally planned to be called "Flushing Meadows Stadium", Shea Stadium eventually was named after William A. Shea, who brought National League baseball back to New York. It was opened on April 17, 1964 and has served the Mets, as well as other New York teams, for over forty years.
For those unaware, Shea Stadium will be dismantled and replaced next year by Citi Field in New York making this is a great opportunity to acquire a scarce and significant piece of sports memorabilia.
