Is the WILSON on each bat large or small? If you're not sure of the difference, David's photo earlier in this thread shows bats with both versions. I'm guessing the Jack Wilson might be smaller and the Lawton and Sanchez larger...

    Thanks!

Chris, you're absolutely right. They did mark bats both ways. By populating a database, we should be able to figure out whether a bat is April 5 or May 4 by the code (at least I'm hoping).

I have put it on my site and will keep track of it there. Here's a link:

Privately, I'm also keeping track of everything in an Excel spreadsheet. I'm including source info for my own benefit; I'm not going to publish those sources online because some people would prefer to remain anonymous.

Re: Sam Bat manufacturing code database

    Jeff,

Great idea on the database! I do not have that data in my bat inventory, but will get some of the ones I have handy later this evening. I remember talking to the owner of Same back in 2003 or so. My question was in regards to the date. I had bats that were dated "26-5-03." Obviously, some European and other foreign countries put the day before the month. The reason I brought this up was that a bat labeled "4-5-03" might mean 5/4/2003 or 4/5/2003 depending on how it is interprested. Obviously, "26-5-03" means 5/26/2003." Not sure if that makes sense, but I think they have adopted the "American" (is that PC?) dating system. Has anyone else experienced this? This could explain the numbers being out of order.

Also, are you planning on putting the database on your site? Maybe you could not the source of the bat to give collectors a chance to compare and inquiry about specific labeling. Just a thought! Might be too much info!

One last question, has anyone found duplicate numbers? Rawlings using a batch code per 2, 6, or 12 bat case. I wonder if Sam does that?

    Thanks,
