    New York Jets (Titans)

I just bought these two things this past month. Sorry about the picture quality, it just does not do the jersey justice, the numbers and lettering are so dark and unlike any other colors used on modern jersey's. I will try to post better photos later.

Hey Matt you're a riot....At my age it won't be long before they're calling me viagra man!! Lisicki did email me and turns out he lives in my neighborhood. I offered to get together but so far he has not taken me up on it...Maybe because I can't let the Vinnie T go
JAYT1234: nice Titans stuff!! It's a shame that the Coleman jersey went up right after you bought 66's as it would have made a nice set with your helmet..
PS, while Chrebet lives up the road from me and I think he's an all-time Jet, the 80 in gridman80 is for the incomparable Jerry Rice...somewhat fickle and temperamental early on, but always a class act on and off the field...if many of today's star WR's had have half the class he showed the game would be better off..

Jim...Don't recall you offering to get together. However would love to take you up on that offer and talk shop....shoot me an e-mail and we can talk!

Matt....hope things are well...tried to send you a few e-mails but never got a response....I have been trying to pry Jim's Vinny T jersey from him to add to the away Jersey you sold me but no luck...He told me the story behind it and can understand his reasoning not to do so....If I were him, I would not let it go either! You and I have talked back and fourth many times about our Jets stuff but I think Jim beats us....

As country singer Toby Keith says JM: I am not as good as I once was but I am as good once as I ever was! I appreciate your honesty because I was thinking you might try to tell us the 80 stood for 1980, the year of your birth. Anyway, yes we all know Rice was great...rings, Pro Bowls, records, HOF and so on. BUT sometimes it is so much about being in the right place at the right time. If you put Al Toon and Jerry Rice in front of me both healthy and in their prime I would not hesitate to take Al Toon who I believe to be one of the most under rated WR's of all time and another class act whose career was unfortunately thrown askew by the concussions.

Half my stuff or more was Jim's at one time. He has been incredily gracious with his wealth of knowldedge and has allowed me the opportunity to grow my Jets collection via his. I am not in a collection competition, he helped me understand a long time ago to enjoy what you have and collect what you like. I always defer to him. There might be a very short list of Jets collections equal to his but those gentleman are uncommunicative and uncaring about the hobby. What's the fun of collecting if you're not going to interact and share your passion (in this case Jets football and history) with fellow collectors? JM has made this a much more rewarding and fun hobby for me. Now if the Jets could just win some %$#@ games!

                  Matt,
I second your emotion on Al Toon. He was a fiery competitor who was totally unafraid to go over the middle and catch those hospital passes O'B laid up...and Al paid a heavy price for his fearlessness...I met Al when I played with Glen Foley in the Cadillac/NFL Pro-Am a few years ago and he was as humble as any NFL player I have ever met...Thanks for the kind words....After all, the stuff we collect looks great but it just sits there collecting dust while my wife whines about all the dirty, blood stain crap coming into the house...The real fun is the in the hunt and in the interaction with fellow collectors who share your interest in a team, or a sport....I spent 12 years collecting suspension helmets of every NFL team from the 60's and 70's ...when I finally completed the set I got bored and sold it off piece by piece...I made a little money when all was said and done but more importantly I had a great deal of fun and made lots of friends along the way..Thanks again....

Jim....after I responded, I found the e-mail you send offering to meet....sent you and e-mail....hopefully we can get together soon....

I agree with the both of you...we spend time and money collecting all this stuff but one of the things I value while doing it is meeting the people and hearing the stories behind the collections.....I have meet some great people and made some good friendships while establishing my small collection....

Re: Show me your JETS stuff..

Good morning - quick question if I may - on eBay boxer2317 has a 2004 jersey of Cotchery's for sale - item 150228127364 -is this the one above maybe you traded in? See his comments re a collector traded in the 04 for more current one(s). We attend all home NCSU games and Cotchery was a special player and a good represenative off the field too.

I collect primarily helmets though have looked at former NCSU players NFL jerseys and gamers from their college days.

Any thoughts re this one? Thanks, Tom

the Jets offered a number of game worn jerseys on their website for a very brief period a couple of years ago..I picked up one of the cotchery's and it was clearly a team issue as it had zero wear...I sent it back....I think the team had 4 or 5 available and they all sold....not sure any of them showed any wear..and they all seemed too big for cotchery as I recall...maybe the jersey in question is one of those as it has the Jets COA and is from that time period..Caveat emptor... Remember that having a team cert is not a guarantee that it is game used...I think the Jets wound up turning over the sale of game used to NFL auctions because of all the team issue stuff that was being sold and returned. It got to the point where I was able to make a contact in the warehouse in pennsylvania where the team stored the shirts for sale and this person would go over each jersey with me...she told me lots were being returned. I notice that NFL auctions does a much better job discerning game worn from team issue..I am completely satisfied with all the jerseys, helmets, gloves and footballs I've gotten from them...

This is the only Jets related item I have, but it is a painted trophy game ball awarded to Rams runningback Cleveland Gary for a game between the LA Rams and NY Jets on 9/27/92.
