LOL, I actually thought about it before I sent em into Mears for an LOA. They came to me via collector Richard Albersheim, via Jack McGuire, the SFCC OL coach. Niners used to donate equipment to the school and ole Jack used to cherry pick some star items. Possible the laces got changed somewhere along the travels, when they came to me they were sans cleats too, I actually added those myself for display purposes. A shoelace change at this point wouldn't match the Mears LOA shots, so I think I'll hold off on that.
Injury noted above though does explain why wear on cleats is so minimal, if that was the sole game he wore them and he was seriously hurt in that game.
Looking for Doug Flynn and Joel Youngblood items.NY Mets jerseys 78-82
Even though I'm not a Bonds fan, those cleats are absolutely awesome! They remind me a lot of the Bagwells I posted at the beginning of this thread. Sweet!

Tried to find this issue on ebay to check it out but couldn't find one.
It may just be me, but it looks like they aren't the same style of shoe. Looks close at the pattern of the red part of the shoe and how far back the nike swoosh extends. Am I seeing this wrong?

I believe this is an angle thing in the pic and I surmise Mears thought similarly as they authenticated the item. A part of the reason may very well be the LOA from Jack McGuire and Albersheim, a pretty strong line of provenance.
Would love to see other pics from that game from other angles though.
Spent months researching Rice's footwear as I also owned a pair of turf shoes from the same source (since sold). Rice rarely wore anything but predominantly white cleats with the red Nike swoosh over his 49er career. Did find a clear style match for the turf shoes from the infamous Dallas game where TO danced on the star, and this pic for the cleats. Not surprised both were donated to SFCC as again the style conscious Rice seemed to favor white cleats with the red swoosh.
