My set is Antz's Payton set and is #17 on the list of basic Payton sets. It is a decent set with nothing under an 8. I think from the collector standpoint I tend to agree with you that bustin some wax with your son would be a heck of a lot of fun and even if you don't pop one the time with your kids would be worth it. Let us know if you do bust some boxes. Good luck.

    Scott,

Why you lying? Your set is #16. hehe Anyways awesome Payton set. What im told, centering is a main factor with those years he played.

Yes, i plan on buying more boxes and storing them to bust open some time in the future.

Still trying to decide if its worth it to do the basic registry set or just collect cards i like. For now im buying them raw of ebay like you did with three of your payton cards.

Re: do you by anythign else but game used/issued?

I moved to game used in 1996 and by 1998 it made up 99% of what I purchased in the hobby. I will still buy items to accent a certain display but I can no longer drop large sums on cards or auto's. I have seen some cards lately selling CHEAP that I have wanted since I was 15 but when I go to pull the trigger I think man that is another Edgar bat or half a Griffey gamer and suddenly I have talked myself out of it.

I prefer my active player items to come signed because after meeting several hundred active players over the years I have found it is better for my collecting if I don't interact with the them. I got to close to the business side of the hobby and it almost ruined my collecting. Retired players, especially old Mariners are usually extremely cool to talk too so I do enjoying taking items for them to sign.

I have been invited over to at least a dozen houses to check out other peoples collections. Usually they have a room full of plaques, Wheaties boxes and bobble heads. While I smile and walk around with my mouth open in "awe" all I can think is jeez this person could have about 25 gamers instead of all this crap....... That being said I have also been to a house with a COMPLETE run of 500 HR game bats. Suddenly I was the guy with the room full of Wheaties boxes.......

I like to collect anything NFL. I like game used/issued, but I also collect jerseys and full size replica helmets. The jerseys are authentic, but made overseas and look good for a fraction of the cost.

Other than game used items, the only things I collect now are Orioles SGA bobbleheads, and the old Oriole bird bobbleheads from the sixties.
