    k

The one stat these 3 teams do lead the leagues in are $$ wasted.

Baseball is a team sport and it takes 9 guys to win a game not just one or two overpriced players. Mets learned that in 2008. Johan did his part but had no help in the relief pitching spot.

After all, the fact that you just happened to be located in the most populous city in the country (or in a region rabid for baseball with no other teams nearby) should allow you to financially dominate the sport, right?
Screw fair competition, let's just buy championships...

The solution to this problem is NFL-style revenue sharing...and two more teams in NY. I doubt I'll live to see the day when MLB becomes 30 oarsmen in one boat, rather than this 30-boats, every-man-for-himself free for all we have now...but a boy can dream, can't he.

Hamfisted Hank said he'd buy up every top FA pitcher on the market. I wonder how those pitchers are going to feel when they stop counting their money and find they're pitching in front of the worst defense in the league?
I think you'll remember that Peter Angelos attempted the "Buy a Championship" routine. He just sucked at it.

Ah, yes...the 1998 Orioles payroll...the last refuge of Yankee$ defenders.
Lead the league in payroll once...a decade ago...what a horrible thing to do! Lead the league in payroll just about every other year except 1998...eh, that's OK.
One owners flaws do not erase the fact that MLB has an archaic, Rube Goldberg contraption for a revenue system that vastly favors at most five teams at the expense of everybody else.
Just because that was how things were done in the late 1800s doesn't make it right for the 21st century.

Here's what I don't understand (me being a Yankee fan and yet being equally objective)

I understand why other fans are mad at the Yankeees for going over board with paying high dollars for players. I even say it to myself sometimes HANK WHY?????

But reality is ISN'T THAT WHAT YOUR SUPPOSED TO DO?????????

To all other fans of other teams did I miss something????? Are you saying if we have the money, we shouldn't spend it so this way you can get the players?????

What part of the game is that????

There is revenue sharing so other teams do get some of what we make, so be mad at your teams owners, gm's and whoever for not investing it back into the team. Don't be mad at the Yankees thats just being selfish.

YOU SAY WE BUY CHAMPIONSHIPS??? WHO WON THE 2003 WORLD SERIES??? NOT US AND THE TEAM THAT DID, DID IT WITH ONE OF THEE LOWEST TEAM SALARIES IF NOT THEE LOWEST.

So remember money doesn't buy championships players do!!!

Remember we haven't won a World Series in 8 Years

If anything be happy, we highly paid for players that mostly did nothing for us or else if we didn't your team might have gotten them and not won the last 8 World Series.

I can name a couple of over payed players that ended up doing nothing for us or fell apart on us.

          Jaret Wright
          Randy Johnson
          Carl Pavano
          Kei Igawa
          Kelly Stinnet
          Sal Fasano
          Drew Henson
          Ramiro Mendoza
          Jesse Orosco
Jason Giambi - I say this because of the roids

          This is just my opinion

              Re: A.J. Burnett to NYY

It's almost impossible (these days) to buy your way to a World Series trophy. The playoffs are way too much of a crap shoot.
It is however, very possible to buy your way into the playoffs.
It's long been my contention that--given the absurd revenue discrepancies between the Yankee$ (and maybe four other teams, top) and everybody else--that the only explanation for them not winning the World Series every single year is that somebody else got really, really lucky, or the Yankee$ screwed up.
If I'm running a 500 meter race, I want everybody starting at the start line. I don't want the competitors strung out from 0 to 450 meters based on finances.
When MLB has revenue sharing for a minimum of 75% of all local revenues--based on the actual, not the cooked books--then maybe we can say the competition is fair.

Just to be fair the Yankees got Orosco in the twilight of his career.

However I would add Danny Tartabull to that list of free agent signings who did nothing in pinstripes.

How about all the $$ they threw at Brien Taylor.
