Re: Would love to see some Mcgwire gamers!

I'm not sure I want to get into the middle of this, especially since I'm not an autograph expert. But, I have seen several Mac signatures and I have to agree that Bobby has a point about the #25 notation. I attended the Winter Warm Up in January 1998 where Mac signed hundreds of autographs. Every one I saw, including the one I got on a mini-helmet, had the STL 25 notation. He did that pretty consistently through 1998. In 1999, he almost always wrote 70 after his name; in 2000, he wrote 2000; and in 2001, he wrote 01' (always putting the apostrophe in the wrong place, after the 1). I've never seen a legit Mac Cardinals bat that had a #25 notation. It's certainly inconsistent with the norm.

Here are closeups of some legit Mac signatures from 1998-2001.

I'm not an autograph collector, but I really can't see any difference between the 2

The back of your jersey doesnt look quite right. The alignment of the 25 under the name.

That is without a doubt a fake autograph on your bat. I dont know how you cannot tell that, just look at the other bats in the post. Even the 25. Mac stopped signing the 25 in his Oakland years. Other than the STL25 he put in 98. I would be contacting whoever I got that bat from, or try and remove the autograph.

Its a shame when people ruin items. If the autograph is fake, makes me think that the use on the bat could be suspect as well. For every legit Mac Cards bat their is about a dozen bad ones.

I asked a guy today about the auto who specializes in Mac auto's. He agreed, bad signature. I agree, the auto looks like whoever did it took way to much time trying to get it right. Not a fluid line auto...
