does it have anything to do with this?

Ryan Is Sued Over a Show of Hands (1992)

A Harris County couple has filed a lawsuit against Texas Rangers pitcher NOLAN RYAN charging that he breached a contract that gave their business the exclusive right to sell likenesses of his hands. The lawsuit, filed by Bronze Memories Inc., and its owners, ROY and BERNADETTE CHAMPIOMONT of Katy, Tex., names Ryan, MATT MEROLA and Mattgo Enterprises, as defendants.

The lawsuit alleges that the former Houston Astros pitcher signed a contract with Bronze Memories in June 1989, giving the bronze-art business the exclusive rights to manufacture and market bronze or other nonphotographic reproductions of the pitcher's hands, according to court records. (AP)

just wondering if everyone list are items they know where it is located and are actively trying obtain it. i think thats different than an item that you have on your want list that you still havent located and don't know who the owner is.

i guess i just want to hear stories of struggle(s) of getting a hold of an item like the story of the original poster.
    Joel -

I'll agree with that analogy... although both are items with undisclosed locations...

I would say a Holy Grail is an item you want, but have no idea of the location or where to begin - after all King Arthur and his Knights never located the Grail...

On the other hand, a White Whale - named for Moby Dick as stated earlier - should be an item you want and you have a general idea of where to begin searching and ultimately the item will surface (no Moby Dick pun intended) as Ahab eventually did find the Great White Beast...

That said, I guess two of the three of mine are actually Holy Grail quests - The Holliday 'Slide' jersey and the Ryan 'Blood' jersey...

I would never want to own anything quite that morbid...unless the possibility of torturing the Unit with it existed.

any Notre Dame game worn jersey from the following games: 1992 sugar bowl, 2005 game against USC, and 1995 fiesta bowl

historically, I have seen one real 1992 sugar bowl jersey about 6 years ago that I lost out on (still mad at myself to this day); I have seen one team issued (backup) jersey from the 1995 fiesta bowl but never a gamer; I have seen one team issued (backup) jersey from the 2005 game against USC but never a gamer

*if you wonder how I knew they were team issued jerseys - they were the jersey number of corresponding star of the team who each played extensively in these games, yet the jerseys had absolutely zero evidence of use (which is not possible)

Re: What is your White Whale?

My white whale would be Manny Ramirez's 2008 game used home Dodger jersey he was wearing on Saturday, September 6th. It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility to photo match it either, as it has pine tar on the left sleeve....

That was the game Manny hit his 521st career home run, tying him with Ted Williams and Willie McCovey on the All-Time home run list (and if Frank Thomas ends where he is currently, him too). But that game was VERY special for me in my collecting life.

If any of you recall, Manny hit a ground rule double in the 6th inning, the infamous "Justin Upton lost-in-the-sun" GRD? That ball hit the warning track, bounced right over the fence, and into my left hand.

But the REAL story is why I was standing over there in the first place. I was talking to the guard on the steps in right field bleachers in an attempt to have him intercept the Dodger brass who had just escorted off the young boy (and his family/friends) who had just caught Manny's home run #521 in the 5th inning. I was sitting in the left field bleachers when Manny hit the lazer to right. It's a great story.....another thread, another time. But while I was attempting to get to the family so I could offer them serious cash for that ball, Manny hit that ground rule double......RIGHT into my lap.

That ball ALSO gave Manny 100 RBI for the season on the NOSE when he touched home plate. That was his (historic) 12th season with at least 100 RBI, placing him second only to Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig (I believe) who sit alone in first place on the All-Time 100 RBI seasons with 13 each.....

Eventually, I was able to go toe to toe (with the help of the boy's mother who escourted me back to the Public Relations office the very next day, Sunday) with the Vice President of Public Relations of the Dodgers, and they gave the home run ball, in my presence....our of their archieve vault.....back to the family, who them sold it to ME!!

So....I have a VERY historic home run ball, and BOTH baseballs that represent ALL 5 of Manny Ramirez's RBI for the very game that propelled the Dodgers into first place over the (previously first place) Arizona Diamondbacks. AND......Manny hit that 3-run lazer shot homer off of Arizona's ACE, Brandon Webb!

So, how cool would it be to own Manny's jersey from that day????? To me, it would be my white whale, for SURE!

    One can dream.......

2nd on my list would be the bat he used that game.
