Been watching a few Yankees game lately and I really noticed Swisher's bats. He is using some crazy criss-cross pattern of tape and then his pine tar is placed in a defined manner on the bat.
I noticed it last night. The tar is perfectly applied over the centerbrand and the tape was very bright and new. Nice to notice when some of these hit the market. Funny what you see when you collect this stuff.
On a side note, when my brother lived in Columbus, Ohio he worked at an indoor sporting complex called Sport Site. They held clinics for young children often. He remembers a young Nick Swisher when he was around 5 or 6 years old. My brother worked with Nick and met his father Steve who was a major league catcher from '74 to '82. Said his father and he were very nice people. So when Nick finally made the big leagues my brother instantly started telling people he was responsible for Nick's success! Cool story he likes telling anyone who will listen. Thought I'd share.
