So is this 6 or 7 hits past Bill Buckner? I lost track....
This would be like celebrating a person who breaks the Pirate hit record.....I just don't get it.
Passing Lou Gehrig for Yankee team hit leader is just a tad :sarcasm: more significant than anything having to do with Bill Buckner or the Pirates (sorry Pirate fans). Sure, it's not 3000 hits (yet) but it's still significant.

I'm no Yankee fan, but I do respect the way Jeter plays the game and how he handles himself on and off the field.
As far as the significance? You're talking about the most storied franchise in sports history - all the World Series - all the MVPs, etc... yet NO memebers of the 3,000 hit club - EVER.
Jeter will be the first - and possibly the ONLY Yankee member of the 3,000 hit club as only time will tell if A-Rod will melt under the stress and run from NYY like he did Texas and Seattle before them.
I hope one day my team has the type of history as the Yankees to celebrate milestones like this.
Several years ago Jeter hit his 2,000th hit at Yankee Stadium and I bought the homeplate. I had Derek sign and inscribe it and also ARod hit a few HRs on it so had him sign it and inscribe it too. It is packed away so I don't have any pics but will try to take some later on.
Bats belonging to Bulbus and BernBabyBern are two fine examples of Jeter gamers too. The real Jeter collectors know how Jeter loves to use his bats to death. Nice bats guys!
