Re: 1996 Alex Rodriguez "1st Career Grand Slam" Game Used Bat
Thanks! And the same goes to you Metsbats!
I have to admit that I'm still in disbelief what Juan did for me. He did something for a fellow collector, with no personal interest other than the satisfaction of making a fellow collector happy.
This isn't just any Arod game used bat. This is an early, well used, significant Arod bat. His 1st Career Grand Slam. The bat is also documented from Arod, to Juan, to me. This to me is really nice.
I'm working on finding the video of the game. I contacted MLB, Seattle Mariners, and a few tv stations in Seattle, but no luck so far. Arod's website, www.arod.com, has the video clip of him hitting the home run, but it's not a close up or of good quality. You know me, I'll keep pressing.
As we all have done, I've become close to a few people without having met them. Just communicating via GUU and email. Joel and I are big Arod collectors, and have emailed each other plenty. Even talked on the phone.
The main thing I like about the people in GUU is, they genuine collectors. Not out to rip anyone off. Not out to screw anyone over. They share information...find deals for each other...and most importantly, are genuine about the game used hobby.
Thanks for all the great comments! Juan, I will never forget this!
Regards, Tony

Sorry should make it easier by restating the question. Just wondering what assistance did Canseco and his group provide while in Cuba back in 1994. Was the mission to provide food, clothing, or medicine to the Cuban people. I think this was a great service that was not publicized. Maybe Canseco wanted it that way.
Thanks in advance

Aaron, as an Arod fan, it's great to see Arod not only doing good in the post season, but also enjoying himself. You weren't wrong then, but it's nice to see him finally making a difference in the post season. Pissed me off when they walked him last night. However, I would have done the same.
I'm glad to see he is making changes in himself. Many have critized Arod on how he was more about himself, his numbers, and his own stardom. I totally agree. But hopefully that's all behind him now, and he's learned how to be about the team, and not just himself.
My only and most disappointing regret is that Arod got involved with steroids. There's no question he has the natural talent. Sadly, he tainted that by using. As an Arod fan, that truly was a major disappointment to me. But I'm glad to see him turning things around.
Go Yankees!
Regards, Tony
I hear you about the steriods but what's done is done. As long as you stay true to being a fan. I always commend that. Like as in Jose Canseco, I'm not a fan of the guy but I respect that he has fans that have stuck with him through thick and thin. That's good to see.

Many thanks to all of you for the kinds words. unbelievable forum! Unbelievable people! Many of you have made the comment “We are like a family.†Whether during good times, bad times, misunderstandings, disagreements, etc., in the end, we are a family.
I’ve been told by a few individuals who sell game used memorabilia that GUU is nothing but a bunch of individuals who are clueless, and add nothing but negativity to the GU hobby. Well, I realize why that was said. GUU is a threat to many out there who aren’t doing business honestly, and GUU usually uncovers those individuals. GUU makes those individuals constantly having to look over their shoulders, because they know GUU is watching. I also know that many of those who made those comments to me, come to this forum to read what is being said, but never post. That tells me that GUU is making a big difference in the GU hobby.
Kudos to all of you! I trust your opinions, before anyone else.

Tony, Im really happy that you obtained this bat...After hearing your story with the Rawlings I started to think that maybe I should give you the ability to buy this bat. I really didnt sell it for the money because I guarantee you that a nice auction would have fetched more. But, I know and wanted you to have a quality Alex piece in your collection. Im glad you are happy.

Juan Iglesias

Juan, as I have been doing for the past few weeks, and will continue to do so for years to come, I can’t thank you enough for giving me the opportunity to obtain such a quality and significant bat as this one to my Arod collection. As you and I both know, you could have received much more for the bat than what I paid. However, it was more important for you to do a nice thing for a fellow collector, than it was to put more money in your pocket. I truly admire and commend you for your thoughtfulness and kindness.
I think it’s really nice that this bat can be documented from Arod, to you, and then to me.
The bat will always be the prize piece in my collection.
