1970 is the first year NFL mandated the use of the last name after the AFL/NFL merger.

I personally don't like the font on the "R" It is not consistent with the few examples from the early 70's that I've seen. Attached is the only early 70's home jersey that I have seen (With letter "R" in the name) made out of durene and sporting a stitched letters on a name plate.

Here is a Gayle Sayers nameplate I acquired about 12 years ago. It is made of a blue dureen material and has the proper font on the S and R (footed). It has stitch holes around the border and is in great shape. I believe it may be authentic. I got it in a large collection of game used stuff and always wondered if it was authentic from a Sayers uniform. I believe it could have only be from 1970 because I thought the Bears stitched the letters directly on the back of the uniform with out a plate in 1971. You guys are very knowledgeable and I hope you can help me out and tell me if it's real and maybe a ballpark value.

About a year ago I posted a sweet Calvin Thomas jersey I picked up and was pretty sure it was a 1985 jersey.

After some photomatching, I have it matched to the entire 1985, 1986 and 1987 seasons.

As promised, here is my Cutler gamer. Pictures really do not do this jersey justice. Absolutely pounded with Game usage from a November 2009 game versus the Eagles. Plenty of photo and video matches. I'm in love

Chicago Bears have always been known as a frugal team with regards to their equipment. If you look at the jerseys all the way into the early 2000's you'll find jerseys with full seasons worth of use. I personally own jerseys that have been worn for multiple years. Once the equipment was beyond game use, it was worn during the practices. There are many pictures from late 70's and early 80's where you can see gamers worn at practice...

Today, nothing changed... The equipment manager holds on to equipment like it's coming out of his paycheck... I've been to several Chicago Bears events and noticed that the jerseys they use for show and tell show obvious signs of multiple game use. Attached are two jerseys from separate events that showcase my point...

I bet that there's a room somewhere in the basement of Halas Hall that has a stockpile of all the jerseys that we're trying to get our hands on...

What are everyones thoughts on what the Bears exactly do with their jerseys now? No company like JO sports , rarely if ever have any jerseys on NFL auctions.. Are they all going to the card companies? It's a shame they don't sell them anymore

Has anyone seen a Brendon Ayanbadejo game used Bears jersey

I've been looking and haven't seen one. There are a few players from that time period that I haven't seen. Most notably (for me) is Thomas Jones.
