Looks like 84-86 era center labeling.

What's stamped on the knob of this bat and what color is the ring?

The knob is stamped '4'. The ring is blue.

I got to see it in person. Has old remnants of pine tar, a crack on the upper part of the handle, and number 72 on the end of the bat which seems an unusual location.

Looks like 84-86 era center labeling.

Store model bat as it has the length stamped on it "4" (for 34 inches).
