Can we assume that the ballparks that don't permit bats also don't have Team Shops where they sell bats? Or, those little kiosks where you can get a full-sized bat inscribed? That would be dumb.
Chase Field has no such prohibitions - didn't even back before they sold game-used bats inside. I recall that early in '02, after they'd implemented some pretty strict (and in some cases really stupid) new security regulations, I wanted to take one of Jim Traber's old bats into the park to get him to sign it (he was broadcasting for the team, then), and I went so far as to call the Event Coordiinator for permission, to make sure that there would be no problems, and he even gave me his cell phone number to use if the guys at the gate tried to stop me.
I had the bat in a mailing tube, which they never even glanced at, or asked me about. They were pawing through purses, kids' backpacks, doing everything but patting folks down - and here I walk in with something that might have been a rifle, for all they knew.
Some of those guys are no doubt working for TSA now.
