It seems like they started making youth helmets with padding closer to the "varsity" models by the 1980s.

These old Riddell youth helmets were popping up on ebay - sometimes unused - 3-5 years ago. Probably someone bought out a sporting goods warehouse and sold them as display models. This one does look like it was game used and then had the Dolphins decals added.
OK. Thanks for the info. I couldn't find this style padding in a Dolphins helmet, so I wasn't sure.

    Thanx Dave.

The tags on my jersey had me a little miffed. I've attached a tag from a Milt Plum Rams jersey. The Sand-Knit tag is dated mid to late 1960's by the gold ribbon and gold size designation. Milt played for the Rams in 1968.

My jersey has "American Football Conference" while the Plum jersey has "National Football Conference". The two leagues merged in 1970 and they became the National Football League - American Football Conference and National Football Conference with Pete Rozelle the commissioner of both leagues. I've seen AFL footballs with Pete Rozelle on them - in 1969 the Chiefs in Super Bowl IV used AFL footballs with Rozelle on the football.

I guess the two leagues finalized the merger in 1970 but manufacturers started making changes to how they labeled equipment earlier?

You think they would list a Matt Moore jersey over him or some other player who isn't him.
There have been 5 or more different used/issued Panthers jerseys of his on ebay over the past couple years, and they never sell for more than 50 bucks. Guy sucked so bad, can't believe 3 different NFL teams gave him a chance.

Great pickup Jim! You don't see many Dolphins 70s jerseys with the sewn numbers.

    Re: Miami Dolphins Stuff

Just picked up a circa 1969-72 Dolphins gamer. Made by Sand-Knit, the jersey shows decent wear and the NOB has been removed. I measured the outline and its approximately 19" long x 4" wide. The last player I found to have worn the #63 was All-Pro Billy Neighbors in 1969 - certainly a 19" long nameplate would be able to support that last name.

After Neighbors in 1969, I could not find any regular season player wearing the #63 from 1970-72. From the wear on the jersey, if Neighbors did not wear it, it may have been worn by a pre-season player from 1970-72 and 1972 would be just fine with me.

    Love those palm trees.
