Re: S.F. Giants Game Used - 12 day sale

When someone has access to something that you don't, what's the alternative?
Not getting the item...that's the alternative.

Some may disagree, but, I would think it's simply common courtesy to shoot someone a few extra bucks for facilitating a new addition to the collection. I would equate this scenario to tipping a waiter/waitress for their services.

    Or am I way off??

I agree. I would never ask a favor of anyone without offering a little extra. Hell, Ive sent people money just for getting me info on an item that Im buying from someone else. I figure if you're saving me time, gas, effort, ect to get an item, you should get something from me. That's just how I roll.

I agree too. I think it's common courtesy to pay someone something for their time and trouble. $215 is a small price to pay for your holy grail.

I wish my happiness could come that cheaply.

like i said the helmet was 150, but I paid 10 dollars shipping and 9.5% sales tax.

Then I would have to ship it to you. Id say that approaches 200 dollars
            Thanks,
            Bobby

Sounds like this will work out in the end..Also, to be clear, there was no "secret email" from the SF Giants..you simply had to be on their GU list, no different than the Braves GU list & how that works..As a side note, I was recently added to the Braves list quickly & efficiently by Lisa & suggest others get on the list as well if interested..As for the Giants, first class all the way, never had a problem, just remember they have a load of items to get thru so show some patience..Lastly, I'd have no problem spending $215 on any "holy grail" item. Enjoy the helmet. Jay.

I took Dayne a few hours to contact me before after my e-mail for the helmet. He said once he sends out his inital email he recieve over 500 respones in a few minutes, and I'm sure the responses are only growing. Did you notice there were only a few game used away world series jersey's? Giants or players must have kept those.

yeah, I bet that is hectic!

Just wondering if the "team issued" jerseys, are actually used, but they did not see them used, and thus are authenticated as team issued. Does anyone know what is up with that?
                        Thanks,

Team issued are not game used. That's why the Giants state team issued OR game used . Not hard to figure out. I was told by the one who works for the Giants in charge of selling ogg the Giants items. As far as the WS g/u items, the homes were worn in games 1 & 2 at ATT. The roads were used in games 3-5, although he stated on one of his emails, they know for sure that they were worn in games 3 & 4. The fifth game, when the Giants became world champs, the craziness was insane in the clubhouse, as you would expect after they became world champs, that MLB, who authenticated the g/u jerseys, couldn't even try. But the seller from the Giants, did say that they were used in game 5 as well.
$750- was the lowest price going for g/u home and road jerseys. I was VERY fortunate to have picked up a home and a road in the $750- class.
"star" players started out at a grand then went sky high! Lincecum went for 5 or 7.5 g's. Last time I looked, he wasn't in the HOF. Those are HOF prices, when you come down to it.

You are 100% correct. Please see the thread started by AWA85 about this years Redsfest fiasco.

I have several hats/jerseys/pants in my collection that have dirt/worn tags/tons of sweat stains/even a pair of Rolen pants that have holes in them from when he slid into a base and they were all "authenticated" by MLB as team issued.

I can't speak for all teams MLB authenticators, but that is what happened with the Reds authenticator this year.

Congratulations on getting a home and road WS jersey. Fantastic. Were you able to get players or coaches?

Correct, and this is the case of the Giants jerseys this season. I had a conversation with Dayn Floyd of the Giants (the person responsible for the GU item sales) on 12/22 and this is a summary of what he had to say regarding the jerseys:

                                1. There were five jerseys collected from each player from the end of the season, excluding those of players jerseys sent to the HOF (eg: Lincecum) and players who did not finish the season with the team. There were, in general, 2 roads, 2 home and 1 alt jersey for each player.

                                2. The home and road jerseys were patched for the WS.

                                3. MLB only authenticated jerseys as "game used" if they could be authenticated directly following the last game played where the jersey was worn. The jerseys authenticated as "team issued" certainly were, for the most part, worn at some time toward the end of the season, as well as the NLDS/NLCS. In short, if MLB authenticators could not verify the jerseys were worn during an actual WS game, then they could not authenticate them as such.

Dayn mentioned this as a case in point: The Giants wore jerseys commemorating Jackie Robinson a couple of years ago that were listed as "team issued" by the MLB authenticators. The Giants had a team meeting following the game where persons not with the team were excluded, including the MLB authenticators. The jerseys were tossed into a bin and left for the authenticators following the meeting. Because the "chain of custody" of the jerseys had been violated somewhat, they could not risk their integrity by authenticating them as "game used". This, according to Dayn, affected the jerseys marketability.
