I would think that should be consistent in staining.

They aren't the same material. The name tag does appear to be poly-knit, but the collar lining of those old Wilson jerseys is a weird cotton type of material. To me, the name tag appears to be the same color as the rest of the poly-knit material on the jersey.

As to why there are no champagne stains on the jersey, if it was laundered (and most likely was, because nobody cared about "use" on those things way back when), there wouldn't be any, would there?

Not saying this is or isn't the real deal (because I certainly have no idea), just trying to refute some of the incorrect reasoning.

also wondering why theres no champagne stains. but the clean name tag is a red flag obviously. what would the point be for adding it?

I owned a cool Thurman Munson autographed full letter to a kid since 1981 and no 3rd party authenticator will pass it. Time doesn't make an item genuine.

I'm guessing Scott will see this jersey in person and can help determine more about it from sight and feel than anyone else.

What an absolute beauty. Would love to own something like that one day! Congrats to the lucky, lucky owner! Makes me want to pull out my 77 WS DVD set and watch it all over again.

Quick slightly related question. The jersey thats hanging in Munson's locker in the Yankee Stadium Museum, is it game used and does anyone know from where?

    dear yankees and forum members,
i have been collecting thurman munson artifacts and game used uniforms since 1984. im very proud to own the 2 finest munson jerseys ever to be found. 1. 1972 home flannel complete jersey with letters from the munson family. 2. 1978 world series home uniform with letter from catfish hunter stating pete sheehy gave to him the nextday thurman passed away...as for this uniform....the tagging in the tail is correct from what dave midema says on the forum as a world series uniform as my 1978 is tagged exactly. however 9 out of 10 munson knit uniforms are not authentic....munson uniforms authentic ones you can count on one hand...you cannot tell from photos if its authentic because there were many sample knit jerseys put out by wilson.....there is a thread pattern in the jersey that must be looked at from the sides to the tail. the second thing is the use and sweat most jerseys that arent authenticate have use on the numbers....im hoping to see this jersey in person and hoping its 100% picture perfect.
    happy collecting....scott m. goodman

And I am not implying anything, just asking as that seems odd to me.

Seeing that this has been determined to be Munson's 1977 World Series jersey, I'm curious as to whether this advances a theory I have had about 1977 Yankees jerseys. Some have a long strip tag in the collar with name/year/set. Others (like this) have a NIC tag and a year/set strip tag in the tail. I have theorized that the ones tagged like this Munson were WS jerseys (and maybe ALCS, as well) and came to that train of thought long before this Munson surfaced. I'm curious if any of the vintage Yankees guys like Mike S. or Jim C. see any increased potential for my theory to be fact. Gentlemen (or anyone else), I welcome your comments.

You can see in two pics, that you can see the stripe on the left side of the NY. But in games 2 & 6, you can not see the stripe please it's so-close to the NY. So they are different jerseys the one from game 1 vs Games 2 & 6.

It matches to games 2 and 5. Not game 1. Munson wore another jersey in game 1.

I am confused, does this jersey match up with other gamers from the era and is it for sale somewhere?
