I agree with most of the post, but, as a fan, I sat behind the White Sox bullpen many times in 1981, and a pitching acquisition, the late Lynn McGlothen, had a NOB on his home jersey(s) that was not on a plate.

While nameplates are not usually found on jerseys from this era, in 1981 the White Sox recycled many jerseys due to a supplier issue with Capital Ace.
The White Sox decided to go with Sand Knit prior to the 1981 season for their new uniform design in 1982.
Capital Ace basically shut the White Sox out by not sending them any jerseys for the 1981 season.
I have a jersey from 1981 that not only has a nameplate, but also a number plate! They sewed a whole piece of material over the old number.
